Tom Tom Runner 3 Cardio + Music, uno dei running watches che di sicuro più si avvicina a quello di cui veramente si ha di bisogno per tenere traccia dei propri progressi nella preparazione atletica

Oggi le proposte di orologi “multifunzione” per monitorare i propri allenamenti sono innumerevoli, tanto che la cosa più difficile è scegliere quello più adatto alle proprie esigenze ed abitudini. Questa settimana abbiamo provato il Tom Tom Runner 3 Cardio + Music, uno dei running watches che di sicuro più si avvicina a quello di cui veramente si ha di bisogno per tenere traccia dei propri progressi nella preparazione atletica.

Vi racconto qui delle caratteristiche che più mi hanno colpito, tralasciando quelle che oramai rappresentano il minimo indispensabile che un dispositivo per un runner deve avere, tipo il GPS o la possibilità di monitorare più tipi di attività, già presente ad esempio sul modello precedente.

Basta con la fascia cardio

La prima caratteristica per me importante è il cardio frequenzimetro integrato; non c’è più bisogno di indossare la fascia toracica, che durante la corsa magari si sposta non rilevando bene i battiti. Io tra l’altro ho il petto un po' villoso e questo ha rappresentato sempre un piccolo limite per l’utilizzo della fascia. I dati inoltre sembrano molto accurati; ho fatto qualche prova prendendo i battiti reali ed il confronto è stato sempre molto soddisfacente.

Accanto a te tutto il giorno

Altro aspetto importante: non è solo uno “sport watch”, ma un tuo compagno durante tutta la giornata, rilevando i passi, i chilometri fatti, il tempo che sei stato in movimento, le ore di sonno e le chilocalorie consumate. Tutti questi dati ti danno l’idea della tua giornata a prescindere dagli allenamenti e ti fanno capire se ad esempio conduci una vita più sedentaria di quello che pensavi o meno. Tieni presente che, ad esempio, l’obiettivo quotidiano, anche quando non ci si allena, dovrebbe essere quello di compiere almeno 10 mila passi...

Un po' di musica

Mi alleno spesso da solo e non nego che molte volte la musica è diventa la compagna ideale durante i lunghi; il problema è che la dovevo tenere sullo smartphone e quest’ultimo al braccio o in mano (scomodissimo) e con gli auricolari sempre in mezzo. Morale della favola: o correvo senza musica o mi armavo di pazienza.
Il Tom Tom Runner 3 ha invece una memoria interna di 3 GB e si collega via Bluetooth ad una serie di auricolari wireless compatibili... Fantastico!

Un’occhiata ai miei allenamenti

L’orologio si avvale di un’app per smartphone alla quale si sincronizza sempre via Bluetooth. Io ho provato quella per Android, anche se alcune recensioni negative mi avevano lasciato perplesso. In realtà sul mio LG G3 la sincronizzazione funziona benissimo e tengo sotto controllo il mio andamento, con tutti i grafici necessari.
Stesso discorso per l’applicazione desktop. In questo caso la sincronizzazione avviene in automatico quando collego l’orologio tramite cavetto al pc.

Qualche altro piccolo particolare

La batteria dura davvero tanto se lo si utilizza solo per rilevare l’attività giornaliera, un po' meno se si corre con GPS e musica. Io comunque ho dovuto ricaricarlo non più spesso di una volta a settimana.

Ci sono poi tante altre funzionalità che non ho ancora avuto modo di esplorare, tipo quella di navigatore, con la possibilità di caricare i propri percorsi, e quella di ricondurti al punto di partenza facendoti seguire il percorso dell’andata. Se ci si allena bene o male sempre negli stessi posti non se ne ha bisogno, ma aspetto di esplorare qualche posto nuovo uno dei prossimi fine settimana per testarlo.

Lati negativi?

Se proprio vogliamo trovarne qualcuno, direi che il prezzo per il modello “top di gamma” non è proprio abbordabilissimo, ma non me ne voglia nessuno, costa comunque meno di uno smartwatch ed è di sicuro più funzionale per quello che mi serve.

A primo impatto la navigazione fra le funzionalità e le impostazioni può non essere molto intuitiva, ma basta prenderci un attimo la mano e diventa naturale.
